Kids updated height-weight

We met with the new doctor, Dr. Boyd. She called Cadence a little chubby. 🙁

Cadence is in ~20% by height, ~45% weight. Blake is in 50% by both. Kids got a flu mist instead of a shot, which was great!

Cadence – 6 year visit

Cadence was quite funny for her visit. She was doing jumping jacks for Dr. Brown to show how healthy she is! So proud of our girl!

Blake @ 12 and 15 months

Blake and Cadence are still trending pretty close in size (though Blake is heavier). Otherwise, they have very different personalities. Blake is a very physical kid. He loves climbing, running, balls, & hanging with the big kids.

Blake – 6 months

Blake is pretty good at sitting up, lunging for toys, and talking nowadays. He loves kisses (neck ones make him laugh) and his sister. His lower tooth is starting to emerge.

Doc says all is good and he should try more food. Blake and Cadence were pretty much the same size!

While Cadence was more even tempered and would be happy being held, sleep anywhere, Blake is more extreme (has a mercurial disposition: very happy to very sad). He’s more physical (always grabbing at things and lunging).

G-daddy’s guess was the closest to his actual weight.

Blake got 3 immunization shots and was quite cranky. Nurse was impressed by how alert & strong he is! He can definitely track things now (watches me move across the room, likes the lights and Adam’s meat pictures). He likes to kick and stand, can mostly hold his head.

Blake – 2 week update

Nadia came to visit for Blake’s 2 week birthday! Having a preemie @ 25 weeks, she gets the process and was very helpful to have at the hospital today!

Blake had another oxygen desaturation (77%) in the past 24 hours. He was set to come home Thursday but has been set back. I spoke with a doc today as they’d expect a kid of Blake’s age to be progressing a bit better & to provide another course of action. She expects that it is preemie apnea but says we could do some checks.

She said we could do a brain ultrasound to make sure the brain is developing properly. So, we did that today. Results should be in tomorrow.

Next we’ll probably do a numagram, which monitors Blake’s breathing to see if there’s any blockage that’s causing his apnea.

We could potentially decide to bring him home before he’s able to self-stabilize. They’d put him on caffeine and would give us a monitor to use while he sleeps. Then at 44 weeks he’d do a sleep study at Children’s Hospital where they’d investigate his apnea more. Nurse said some people don’t like it b/c of the stress of the monitor.

I’m grateful Blake is getting good care at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and to have them investigate and provide alternate courses of action. Of course we want him to come home soon & be healthy!

Cadence had her 3 year wellness on Friday. She was very nervous b/c of the shot. She cried (prob for the first time) @ school. She got along with the nurse. I could see how relieved she was when getting her blood pressure taken, etc. that it didn’t hurt. 🙁 She had her eyes checked where the nurse pointed to a letter & Cadence had to point to the corresponding letter.

Dr. Hess came in & gave her a checkup. Said, obviously we don’t need to worry about her language skills… 🙂 Cadence was happy & engaged. Then she had a flu shot. 🙁 🙁 She was not happy. We then had to have her blood drawn for a lead test. The worst. She was crying & so afraid. Another a nurse had to hold her arm down while another drew blood. Lots of crying throughout the rest of the day. Jane took us for ice cream & Cadence fell asleep at JP Licks.

All throughout the rest of the day, every time she noticed her bandages she’d freak out again. Poor girl.

15 month doc visit

cadence has more or less stabilized as far as weight & height. I realized how advanced she is when the doc asks questions (does she know her body parts, etc.). She knows so much!
